Locus of Control - Works by David Fathi at Gallery Arthuis, Brussels
17 January - 21 February 2020
"As Above, So Below" & "Wolfgang"

Throughout his work, David Fathi has always emphasized the limits of knowledge and the inadequacies of our belief systems and structures. Whether through this exhibition, focusing on the history of the atomic bomb, quantum physics and political philosophies, a common theme emerges. Our failures to influence overly complex systems.

'Locus of Control' is one of the first exhibitions by David Fathi to put into context two different subjects and styles of his work over time, which nevertheless have this common approach.

The brand new work, As Above So Below 2020, is a meditative attempt to represent the scars on earth and in the sky of the military staging.  Also exhibited are works from,Wolfgang (2016)  a story of scientific ghosts playing on the sometimes mystical and superstitious beliefs of the brightest minds in quantum physics. Each work varies in tone and form, but it appropriates and transforms the existing material (Youtube sequences, satellite images, CERN photographic archives). The diversion of images is at the heart of Fathi's methodology. By drawing the curtain of controlled representations of our world, his work reveals the banality and the absurdity which remain when all the oracles have disappeared.
