East Wing is pleased to announce Arko Datto’s first solo exhibition in the Netherlands at Fotomuseum den Haag.
As a resident of Kolkata, the Indian photographer Arko Datto feels the threat of climate change every day and fears for his future. In the nearby Ganges-Brahmaputra-Meghna Delta, the ground is slowly but surely disappearing from under the people’s feet. Their houses are being carried away by the sea, which is claiming more and more land. The effects of the climate crisis are being felt all over the world, but it is precisely the people who contribute the least to the problem who bear the greatest burden. In his two latest series, Where Do We Go When the Final Wave Hits and Terra Mutata, Datto reveals the daily nightmare of the inhabitants of the Ganges-Brahmaputra-Meghna Delta. Datto heightens the sense of threat through the use of infrared photography and colour filters. Fotomuseum Den Haag presents Datto’s first solo exhibition in the Netherlands.
