For nearly two decades, Corinne Vionnet has explored the endless flow of images we generate as tourists and how screens and digital tools shape our experiences. This exhibition delves into her visual compositions. The exhibition also includes 2 newly commissioned works that question our relationship with image-making in a world increasingly dominated by virtual realities.
Corinne Vionnet is a Franco-Swiss visual artist based in Switzerland, widely recognized as a pioneer in the exploration and re-purposing of web-based imagery. Her artistic practice encompasses extensive archival research, photographic image-making, the appropriation of crowd-sourced material, and collage. Through her work, she examines the construction and maintenance of collective identity, social imagination, and our evolving relationship with images in the digital age. She explores how the internet, while promising boundless freedom and discovery, ultimately confines us within algorithmically curated spaces, reinforcing illusions of individuality.
Corinne Vionnet’s work is included in the collections of SF MOMA, San Francisco; Musée de l’Elysée, Lausanne; Musée Carnavalet, Paris; Museo de Bellas Artes, Bilbao; Musée d’Art du Valais, Sion; Musée d’Art, Pully; Musée français de la photographie, among others. Her artist books are part of collection of the Fotomuseum in Winterthur, the MOMA of New York, Whitney Museum in New York, New York Public Library in New York, MACBA in Barcelona, Reina Sofia in Madrid, Bibliothèque d’art et d’archéologie in Geneva, to name a few.
Vionnet’s work has been featured in solo shows including the Swiss Camera Museum (2018); Danziger Gallery, New York (2015, 2024); Oslo 8, Basel (2012); and East Wing, Doha (exhibition in Dubai, 2009).
