Lina Hashim was born in Kuwait city, and is now based in Denmark where she is a student at The Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts.
In her artistic practice she confronts her own inner concerns regarding Islam, using photography as a means of raising her questions and concerns. Heavily inspired by her own story, but at the same time she also reflects on how her identity and questions sit within a European context.
She examines the impact of pictorial representation in the structure of culture, religion and identity. She choose to look at Muslims, the young second- generation immigrants, refugees and immigrants and focuses specifically on how they melt and mix in Western culture with the symbols of traditional Muslim culture.
Lina Hashim’s work is centered in Photography, but also extends to other media.
