French- Swiss artist, Corinne Vionnet became fascinated with the exploration and re-purposing of web-based imagery beginning in 2005. Searching the Internet she analysed the imagination of the general public through vernacular images of tourist landmarks from around the world, exploring the unconscious repetition of image making, focused specifically on these familiar sight-seeing locations.

Vionnet’s curiosity of this collective identity, as well as how images are used, make up the source material for her art practice. Her study is central to the celebrated series, Photo Opportunities (2011), Vionnet’s commentary on mass tourism and its relationship to digital culture.

To date, her work has been published in numerous monographs: Photo Opportunities (2011), ME. Here Now (2017), Total Flag (2018), Automated Matterhorn and Souvenirs d’un glacier (2019), CIELS (2020), Total Palm Tree (2021), and Almost There (2023). Her artist books are in the collections of; Fotomuseum Winterthur, the MOMA, the Whitney Museum, and the NY Public Library, to name a few.
