PHIL TOLEDANO

Phillip Toledano considers himself a conceptual artist: Everything starts with an idea, and the idea determines the execution. Consequently, his work varies in medium, ranging from photography to installation, sculpture, painting and video. He has published a number of celebrated books of his work with Dewi Lewis in the UK.

Phillip Toledano was born in London, to a French Moroccan mother and an American father. He grew up in London and Casablanca. Toledano received a BA in English literature from Tufts University in Boston.

Toledano considers himself a conceptual artist: Everything starts with an idea, and the idea determines the execution. Consequently, his work varies in medium, ranging from photography to installation, sculpture, painting and video.  His photographs have been presented internationally and a major retrospective exhibition was mounted at the House of Photography Deichtorhallen for the Hamburg Triennale  2015 in Germany. To date, Phillip Toledano has published seven monographs of his work.

Additionally his photographs have appeared in: Vanity Fair, The New York Times magazine, The New Yorker, Esquire, GQ, Wallpaper, The London Times, The Independent Magazine, Le Monde, and Interview, amongst others.
