East Wing is thrilled to announce the powerful series “The Merge”, created by collaborative Copenhagen-based trio Sara, Peter & Tobias is now available as a gorgeous publication by RM Publishing. The project was also winner of the Fohanna Grant which supported the onward development of the work.

Following on from their fascinating series PHENOMENA, which was featured at Les Rencontres de la Photographie Arles in 2016 and exhibited at Photofairs San Francisco and Unseen Amsterdam by East Wing, combined with an award winning book, published by André Frère Éditions, the Merge which was premiered at Breda Photo Festival in 2019, takes this trio’s exploratory practice further ,by contemplates the simple question:

Could it be that our world is just a construction – a manufactured illusion?

A few years ago, this existential discussion was limited to the academic world and science fiction. But things are changing. Bank of America recently issued a report to all of their customers in which they stated that the probability that we live in an artificial reality is between 20% and 50%. Tesla and founder, Elon Musk, believes that the chance that we do not live in a computer simulation is one in a billion.

The Merge visually explores the question: Is it possible that our physical reality does not exist as we believe it to, but instead life is a computer simulation?
The Merge is the second book of Sara Brincher Galbiati, Peter Helles Eriksen and Tobias Selnaes Markussen – three documentary based artists living and working in Copenhagen, Denmark.
Throughout their projects the Sara, Peter & Tobias share and collaborate on every aspect of the process – from research, interviewing, and taking the actual pictures, to editing the final photos and designing the book.

Peter Helles Eriksen (1984), Sara Brincher Galbiati (1981) and Tobias Selnaes Markussen (1982) are a photographers collective based in Copenhagen, Denmark. They joined forces in 2015, and had their first joint international exhibition a year later at Rencontres d’Arles 2016, where they released the book Phenomena. In 2018 the trio was awarded the BJP International Photography Award.
